The One-Stop Location Service to International Film Producers
Asian Film Location Services (Pvt) Ltd., was established by Chandran Rutnam in 1979. It was the first institution in Asia to provide a one-stop location service to international film producers. In 1980, Chandran invited Asoka Perera to be his partner.
The Company (AFLS) has serviced films throughout Asia, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, India, Seychelles, Philippines and the Maldive Islands. Today, in addition to films, the company provides support services to local and foreign Commercial and Documentary industries.
Chandran and Asoka have produced several local films and participated in the co-production of some international films. The company has had the pleasure of working with all the major studios and numerous independent producers. Chandran and Asoka won the Best Picture Award at the Presidential Awards in 1999 for the production of the film, "Pilgrimage," directed by Vasantha Obeysekera.
Chandran is a writer producer director in his own right and has directed three local films;
"Adara Kathawa," which was Sri Lanka's official entry to the International Film

In 2009 Chandran produced and directed his adapted screenplay from Nihal De Silvas bestseller "The Road from Elephant Pass" which won the Gratien Prize for the best English language novel of the year 2003.
Chandran has just completed his first International release, directing Ben Kingsley in A Common Man to be released worldwide in 2013.
In February of 2007, Chandran was presented with the Special Presidential Award for his contribution to the Sri Lankan film industry. Chandran has traveled the world, working and maintaining contacts and friendships with international film producers, directors, artists and technicians.
